Introducing “From the Music Director”

News, thoughts, and other information from Andover Choral Society music director Michael Driscoll

Welcome to my new blog! It looks like “social distancing” is going to be a part of life for quite some time now. My hope is that this blog will provide a way for us to keep in communication and engaging in music even while we remain physically separated.

The beauty of a blog is that you can respond! My hope is that these posts will serve as a way for me to communicate with you, but also that we all can respond and share thoughts and ideas.

To kick things off, I want share a very good FREE website for learning and practicing music theory skills: musictheory.net
There are many lessons available where you can learn about various music notation and music theory concepts. They also provide a number of exercises where you can practice your music notation and music theory knowledge. There are also a number of ear training exercises if you’re looking for a real challenge!

Try it out and let me know if you find it helpful. Let me know if there are music notation or music theory questions you have that aren’t answered at musictheory.net! Add your thoughts and questions by writing in the comment section below.

Thanks for link to musictheory.net. Used the chord exercises to brush up on my Big Band-playing skills. Appreciate the link, Mike!
