Virtual Rehearsals and Holiday Concert for Fall 2020

[Andover, MA] Andover Choral Society, directed by Dr. Michael Driscoll, invites all who enjoy singing classical choral music to join the chorus this fall in preparing a virtual holiday concert. Virtual, 90-minute rehearsals will begin via Zoom on Monday, September 21, at 7:00 p.m. The first two rehearsals will be free and open to all who pre-register. The fee after that will be $50, with sessions ending on December 7.

Andover Choral Society is dedicated to presenting exceptional performances, connecting to the larger community an fostering an appreciation of choral music, and in 2020 this mission is especially relevant, yet more challenging than ever before. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has made it unsafe to hold in-person rehearsals, the chorus has planned an exciting sequence of virtual rehearsals for the coming months. These sessions will feature vocal warm-up exercises, professional instruction in sight-reading and vocal techniques by Dr. Driscoll as well as guest speakers, and the opportunity to practice and record a program of holiday music that will be shared with nursing homes, assisted living centers, and other community groups. Chorus smiles!

In responding to pandemic-related restrictions on in-person gatherings, Andover Choral Society quickly found creative ways to continue providing choral music to the wider community in recent months. For example, local cable access channels in Andover, North Andover, Haverhill, Lawrence, and Derry, New Hampshire have aired the chorus’s performances of Rutter’s Requiem and “Songs of World War I”. Since April, the chorus has also sent weekly “A Moment of Music” emails featuring clips of past performances to everyone on its mailing list.  To be added to the list, send a request to email@andoverchoralsociety.org.

Andover Choral Society invites all who enjoy singing choral music to join the chorus for its upcoming series of virtual rehearsals and holiday concert as the chorus rises to the challenge of bringing people together through music.
