Songs of World War I
A concert in partnership with the Andover Historical Society

The year 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, also known as the “Great War” and the “War to End All Wars.” In the first half of this program, Andover Choral Society tells the story of impact of the war through popular songs, featuring arrangements written for Andover Choral Society. The second half of the program features Stephen Chatman’s setting of John McCrae’s poem, In Flanders Fields, written in May 1915 during the second Battle of Ypres, and contemporary composer Craig Carnahan’s dramatic setting of Siegfried Sassoon’s poem Everyone Sang.The program concludes with a medley of United States Armed Forces songs and Irving Berlin’s Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor, a setting of the Emma Lazarus poem The New Colossus.
