Johannes Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem

Sunday, February 5, 2023 at 3 p.m.

West Middle School
Andover, MA

SINGERS WILL WEAR MASKS. MASKS ARE OPTIONAL FOR ORCHESTRA MEMBERS AND MEMBERS OF THE AUDIENCE.

Andover Choral Society, directed by Matthew Buono, will perform the magnificent Ein Deutsches Requiem by Johannes Brahms on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at West Middle School in Andover. The concert soloists will be soprano Dana Varga and baritone Philip Lima, and the chorus will be accompanied by a professional chamber orchestra.

The Requiem is one of Brahms’ most famous and well-loved choral works. The lush, dramatic music, written when Brahms was in his thirties, conveys a universal message of consolation and hope, offering comfort to all who mourn and feel the pain of loss.

This event will be a celebration of a new chapter in Andover Choral Society’s 93-year history as the chorus’ new Music Director, Matthew Buono, conducts his first concert with the chorus. Buono is an accomplished bass-baritone who regularly performs with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops as a member of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus.

Concert tickets are available for $25 in advance ($30 at the door) and $10 for students. A group rate of ten tickets for $20 each is also available.

West Middle School is located at 70 Shawsheen Road in Andover, MA, and is handicapped accessible. Off-street parking is available in the school’s parking lot.
